    Get to Know

    Dr. Neil Cochrane, MBCHB, FRACS

Neil Cochrane is a neurosurgeon, spinal surgeon, and medicolegal specialist who is based in South East Queensland, practising in Sunnybank, South Brisbane, and Southport, Gold Coast.

Dr. Cochrane earned his medical degree in New Zealand in 1996. He then discovered a passion for neurosurgery and began training in New Zealand, completing his specialist qualification as FRACS in Australia in 2007.  He has undertaken additional fellowship training at Flinders Medical Centre in South Australia and in Sydney at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Prince of Wales Private Hospital, and North Gosford Private Hospital.

With a specialist interest in complex spinal surgery, Dr. Cochrane has developed further focused interests in cervical fusion and disc replacement surgery as well as abdominal exposures to the lumbar spine.

He strives to involve his patients in the decision-making when it comes to their health, explaining the problems, outlining all possible solutions, and tailoring the most suitable options for treatment.  Dr. Cochrane knows that people want to understand their condition and be included in treatment, rather than it being simply prescribed to them so they can maintain ownership of their health.

Dr. Cochrane is also an accredited independent medical examiner (CIME) providing impartial medical assessments for a large number of workers compensation and CTP insurers and solicitors in personal injury and other matters. He has clients from most states and territories in Australia.

Dr. Cochrane works in a group practice with pain specialists, physicians, and neurophysiologists, allowing full and comprehensive management of brain, spine, and pain issues.  As part of Precision Queensland Brain, Spine & Pain, Dr. Cochrane is able to provide the best management of his patients with the ability to involve the broad expertise of his colleagues without any potential for gaps in management. His practice has cultivated relationships with the best allied health teams in the region, to maximise rehabilitation and recovery for his patients. This allows referrers to relax in the knowledge that complete and comprehensive multidisciplinary care will be available upon a referral to Dr. Cochrane.
